International Youth Diplomacy Summit (IYDS) 2026

What is Model UN?

Model United Nations is a simulation of the UN. Each student is handed a country and a global problem, and has three days to argue that country's position, win over the room and help write a resolution.

• Research: Learn your country's real position on the agenda, even when you disagree with it, and set it out in a position paper: a short brief of where your country stands.
• Debate: Make speeches, answer questions and negotiate in caucus, the informal rounds where deals get made. Find the delegations who want what you want.
• Resolve: Draft a resolution with your bloc (the countries on your side), defend it clause by clause and put it to a vote.

How IYDS runs it

Every decision at IYDS is measured against one question: does it make the three days better for the delegates and chairs in the room?

• Student-led, start to finish: The secretariat, the chairs and the agendas are all the work of students. Nobody runs it for us, so it is built the way we would want it as delegates.
• Authentic: Real rules of procedure and real country positions. No scripted outcomes.
• Quality over scale: Committees are capped at 25, so every delegate is heard.
• Built for delegates: One delegate per country, and first-timers are never placed in advanced committees.
• Built for chairs: One rubric and a scoresheet that adds itself up, so chairs can focus on the room.
